portable edition

Portable setup

Extract the package, start the software and open your first configuration. Everything needed is included. Data is stored separately from the application, in your user profile.

1. Download and verification

Our team will provide the package link. Choose the file for your operating system:

Calculate the downloaded file's checksum and compare it with the value in SHA256SUMS. Replace the package name in the example with your downloaded filename:

# Windows (PowerShell)
Get-FileHash .\viewer-pro-portable-1.4.2-win-x64.zip -Algorithm SHA256

# Linux / macOS
shasum -a 256 viewer-pro-portable-1.4.2-linux-x64.zip

2. Extract and start

Extract the package to a writable directory. Administrator privileges are not required. Then run the start script for your operating system:

# Windows
C:\Narzedzia\viewer-pro\viewer-pro.cmd

# Linux / macOS (za pierwszym razem nadaj prawo wykonania)
chmod +x ./viewer-pro.sh
./viewer-pro.sh

The script starts the application at 127.0.0.1 on a free port and opens your default browser. Access is limited to this computer. Closing the terminal stops the application; data is saved continuously.

Windows SmartScreen may ask about an unknown publisher when first running node.exe from the package. The bundled Node comes from nodejs.org and is SHA-verified during packaging; the checksum is in manifest.json.

macOS Gatekeeper: if the system refuses to run the application, remove the quarantine attribute: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ./viewer-pro.

3. Activate the installation

On first launch, enter your company, tax ID / identifier and email, then select “Send activation request”. The request goes directly to our support team. After approval, the application receives activation automatically; no files or key pasting are required.

You can close the application and return later. The request number and status are saved. Reinstallation does not start a new trial for the same company.

On a network without internet access, expand “Offline activation” and use file exchange. Advanced configuration can still supply the key through WEBCON_LICENSE or WEBCON_LICENSE_FILE; the key alone still requires installation approval. The variable takes precedence over the key in settings.

# Windows - na stale dla uzytkownika
setx WEBCON_LICENSE "WCR1...."

# Linux / macOS - w ~/.profile
export WEBCON_LICENSE="WCR1...."

A paid key is assigned to Portable or Server. The Portable licence includes two activations, for example on a laptop and backup computer used by the same person. The computer and user account identify the installation. Before moving the software or renaming the computer, release the activation: Settings → Licence → “Deactivate”. Without internet access, use offline activation.

The standard Portable plan includes one person, one workspace and four environments. An environment counts once it has at least one snapshot. At the limit, the software prevents adding another environment while retaining access to history. Detaching an environment frees a slot and keeps its data readable. Workspace and environment limits do not apply during the trial. If you need more capacity after testing, ask about the Server edition.

4. Data directory and backups

operating systemdata directory (default)
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\ViewerPro
Linux~/.local/share/viewer-pro
macOS~/.local/share/viewer-pro

The application stores data on your computer. To use another directory, for example on an encrypted drive or in a client project, set WEBCON_DB before startup:

set WEBCON_DB=D:\Projekty\klient-A\viewer-pro
viewer-pro.cmd

You can use several independent data directories on the same computer and user account. They still use one activation. Make backups while the application is stoppedby copying the entire data directory. SQL source passwords and AI keys are stored separately in the operating system's protected store. The data directory backup does not include them.

5. Load your first configuration

.bpe packages

Export applications from Designer Studio, each to a separate package. A complete set from one environment forms a snapshot: a configuration state at a given time. In Spectrum, open Workspace, name the workspace and choose “New environment”. Enter its name (e.g. DEV, TEST or PROD), type and host. Then go to Import and select the files.

You can import multiple packages with one command:

viewer-pro.cmd ingest import "C:\eksport\DEV\*.bpe" --workspace "Klient A" --env DEV

Read directly from the WEBCON database

Open SQL sources → “New source”. Enter the server, database name (e.g. BPS_Content) and sign-in method. Choose “Test connection” to check access and schema compatibility. Then use “Load configuration” to save a snapshot. Portable retrieval is manual; scheduling is available in Server.

Windows Authentication requires an ODBC driver and Windows. SQL sign-in, NTLM with a password and Microsoft Entra ID are available on all supported operating systems.

6. Update

  1. Close the application and back up the data directory.
  2. Extract the new version to a separate directory. Data stays in its existing location.
  3. Start the new version. Follow the release instructions and application messages to complete the update. Saved snapshots remain available.

The new version must fall within the paid update period. If it is later, the application displays a licence message. You can renew updates and support or use an entitled version. Returning to an older version requires restoring a pre-update data backup.
